Five Basic Strategies for Optimizing Your SMS Marketing and Advertising Campaign

The mobile revolution is in full-bloom, as many people are using their mobile phones to escape the stuffy office space to get work done, to shop, to find restaurants, to get deals on products and services that are of value to them. On any given day most of us are too busy looking down at our phones, posting to our Facebook page, or to even notice what the weather is like.

You will find many social media “experts” and online professionals preaching that it’s so important to have a social media strategy in place to succeed online today, but in reality you only need a mobile marketing strategy that integrates with your traditional and digital marketing campaigns.

Having a mobile marketing campaign allows your target market to have access to your business 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year, from anyplace in the world. If you have a social media campaign running that is only for desktop users, you are missing out on a big chunk of business. If you want to start focusing on mobile marketing, optimize your marketing campaign to integrate mobile as well.

Creating a solid business strategy to take advantage of the growing smartphone market is critical for staying competitive, and luckily there are several ways you can make your business more mobile-friendly to capture the attention of your target market.

Catering your marketing strategies to as many devices as possible, like smart phones, tablets, texting applications, and e-mail, is imperative in today’s marketplace. The statistics relative to the target markets are staggering:

4 billion cell phones are in use today
1 billion of those phones are smart phones
3 billion are SMS and MMS capable
The mobile Web is expected to take over the desktop experience by 2014

Here are five things your business should be focusing on when it comes to mobile marketing:

1). Visibility

Get your business visible online so that people can find you. Create profiles for your business on Facebook, Google+ Local Pages, Foursquare, and other local community channels. This way you will make it easier for your target audience to find you on the mobile web.

2). QR codes

Even though this marketing strategy has been slow to take off, QR codes are gaining momentum and are widely used abroad. Integrate some QR codes in your social media marketing strategy. QR codes are easy to create and can be done directly with Google.

3). E-Mail

E-mail open rates on phones and tablets are on the rise. Did you know that more people read their e-mail from a mobile device than on a desktop computer or webmail? One rule of thumb to follow is make sure your e-mail content is optimized, meaning it’s action-oriented and compatible on each device in both HTML and text formats. Include one easy, actionable button for readers to click if they’d like more information. Keep it simple.

4). Mobile marketing

Many people are using their mobile devices to read the latest news, check for updates, and visit their favorite social media channels to see what is going on. Use this to your advantage and start a mobile marketing campaign to target these users.
